Acropolis Rally Greece
Guy Wilks underlined his position as Britain’s front-running WRC star with a polished performance on the Acropolis Rally Greece.
The Sun Mobil 1 Rally Team driver mastered rough, rocky roads and intense 31C heat to finish ninth. Guy and co-driver Phil Pugh were making their third start in The Sun Mobil 1 Ford Focus RS WRC05.
Guy, 26, said: “We’re back on track now. We needed to get some miles in the car after our accidents in Norway and Portugal.“We set some good times against newer cars without taking any big risks and now we have something to build on for Finland.”
The Athens-based Acropolis Rally - the toughest of the FIA World Rally Championship - consisted of 334.44km of timed action over four days - including the 48.88km Agii Theodori test, the longest of the season so far. Guy and Phil were eighth quickest on that mammoth stage.
Phil said: “Guy drove really well all weekend. We didn’t have the budget to do any testing before the rally so we had to learn as we went along. We conserved the tyres and it paid dividends.”
British rally fans can watch Guy do demonstrations runs in The Sun Mobil 1 Focus at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, June 22-24.
The Sun Mobil 1 Rally Team is also supported by Scalextric and Fitz Samuel Insurance and Guy is an ambassador for the Caudwell Children charity.
