He thrills crowds with monster jump
THIS is the monster jump that stunned Guy Wilks' WRC rivals on Rally Finland.
The young Brit hit the crest on the tree-lined Leustu stage flat in sixth gear at 171kph!
Wilks' incredible speed and bravery underlines just why he is tipped as a future world champion.
The 26-year-old hurt his back when The Sun Mobil 1 Ford Focus RS WRC04 landed heavily.
But he showed true Brit grit to keep going and claim his second successive ninth place finish in the WRC.
Co-driver Phil Pugh said: "Guy was a real hero to carry on. He was in a lot of pain. But thankfully the muscles in his back had just locked to protect his spine from damage."
The pair were challenging for sixth place at the time but the daring jump also squashed a pipe on the car's hydraulics system.
It meant they had to limp through four stages with no diffs, no handbrake and no semi-automatic gearchange before repairs were allowed.
It cost them 2mins 30secs on their rivals and demoted them to ninth.
Wilks posted nine top 10 stage times on the fastest rally in the WRC calendar including an impressive sixth place on the final 8km test - just 3.9secs behind rally winner Marcus Gronholm.
Guy, Phil and The Sun Mobil 1 Rally Team now have 10 days to prepare for Rally Germany, round 10 of the 2007 FIA World Rally Championship.
The Sun Mobil 1 Rally Team is also supported by Scalextric and Fitz Samuel Insurance and Guy is an ambassador of the Caudwell Children Charity.
